MOVIE REVIEW: - DC'S "BLUE BEETLE', A fun-hearted yet meaningful story about the spirit of family, and a homage to Latin culture.

While ’BLUE BEETLE’ may not be a total game-changer for super-hero flicks as a whole, it achieves amazing feats hand-delivering us as an engaging and pure new character, brightening the future of DC with one of the most “origin” films we’ve seen in a long time.

Regarding execution, this film is such a blast to the past stylistically. It takes us back to Marvel classics and 2000’s era superhero flicks with stellar action and old-school camera work. It’ll take u through cheerful, heartfelt, and hysterical strides in one glorious sitting.

Family is everything in ‘BLUE BEETLE’ as we see the immediately lovable Reyes family take center stage alongside @xolo_mariduena Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle) here. Although acting and chemistry start slowly obtuse in the first act, by the end of the film every member is prominent, badass, and lovable in their own ways.

There’s something so empowering about seeing a family that though isn’t the most fortunate, still embraces their resilience & appreciates their life with each other’s company, no matter the condition. Despite this family & film being such a love letter to its identity with countless Latin pop culture references, it touches people of all backgrounds as we not only feel accepted by the family but moreover, reminded of our very own.

Xolo Maridueña had a huge role to bring to life here, and he took up the mantle to even greater heights than expected. He plays Jaime with such a pure transparency and ambitious nature, laying this character out in front of us so bona fide that it has us hooked to his side from the get-go.

Issues do exist execution-wise, & various plot decisions are questionable here. Some shot decisions and acting do miss the target quite a bit during meaningful scenes. In fact, some scenes feel pulled out of a Disney show or a Tv-Movie due to poor integrity, which is an eminent concern here.

Otherwise, #BlueBeetle is an engrossing and authentic origin film, of the likes we haven’t seen in a while. It’s a captivating film radiating passion and is one of this year’s definite must-sees. Get your family, get your popcorn, and enjoy DC’s ‘BLUE BEETLE’ releasing tomorrow, Friday, August 18th.
